Chicon report

If you're looking for a long, detailed, illustrated report on Chicon, this isn't it. If you want my quick impressions after a really fun afternoon, this is it! I only attended the Jared-Misha panel, which unsurprisingly turned into the Jared-Misha-Jensen panel, and even though I was too far away to see them very well, it was still a good time.

Basically, it was exactly what I expected from watching videos of previous cons. Somewhat surprisingly, since I am neither a Misha nor a Cas girl, he was my favorite. He was hilarious, making fun of everything but with a straight face, kind of like Stephen Colbert. My favorite example was when someone asked about how hard it was to film 5.22 because of the super-emotional ending (and she was actually pretty emotional as she asked the question). Misha sounded very serious as he said that really, the hardest part was getting exploded.  You would think it was mostly physical, he said, but it was very tough emotionally, too, especially being reconstituted.  But then the part where Dean was up against the Impala, and Sam was falling into the pit--and they didn't actually have a pit into Hell on the set, Misha explained, just a green tarp--yeah, Jensen was actually crying a little there, and it was hard to look at him because of how awful his face was--and then they put the makeup on.  (Har de har.)

Jared was more jokey and not pretending to take things seriously like Misha, but he was also more exuberant--he really can't sit still for more than two seconds. Someone asked what episodes they were each most proud of, and he said IKWYDLS and Heart; that was about the only time he gave a really serious response.

Jensen entered by cutting in the line and pretending to ask Misha a question in this querulous voice, basically asking for him to do a Dean impression.  That was hilarious, as was the one that a fan asked Jared to do of Castiel.  Jensen definitely comes across as more reserved--not necessarily verbally, because the guy can snark, but not interrupting as much, more waiting until there was a break in the conversation. Of course, since he wasn't scheduled to be there, not everyone's questions included him, which was probably part of it.

I was surprised at how much fun they made of the fans as they were asking the questions--there was this one girl who had lost her voice, and a few more who had their questions mocked because they were written out.  But then that made it easier when people asked semi-inappropriate questions (like just asking for a hug, which you're totally not supposed to do) for them to deal with it in that same kind of teasing mode. There wasn't anything too facepalm-y, though, for which I was grateful.

All in all, it was definitely worth going, even for just this one thing.  I got to meet harrigan and morganoconner and peppervl , which was awesome, and hang out with dugindeep and with savingfaith333 , which is always fun.  I have to say, I'm tempted to come back next year and do photos and/or autographs...maybe I'll see you there!

Awesome meeting you, too!

I have some con impressions, too, but no time to indulge in depth tonight. I definitely felt that the tone was very different having Misha there with J2, as opposed to when he's on a different day and it's just J2 on Sunday. (The whole mocking the fans and not taking questions seriously, I felt, was due to Misha. He was on stage the entire time Sunday and it sort of set the tone. It's not generally like that, at least not to that degree, when it's just J2.)

But I definitely had a good time, no doubt about it! And esp. glad to meet you! Maybe will see you there next year!?

I figured that was mostly Misha, although I think the Js do it sometimes, too. Guess I'll have to go to another one when it's just the two of them scheduled. :)
