31 Days: Two

Day two: educate us on something you know a lot about or are good at.

...but I'm going to cop out and refer you to my previous posts on how to quilt.

Although this also means I get to show you the pics of the quilt I just finished tonight.

One of my Ph.D. students is getting married this fall. He's from Oklahoma, and the pattern is called Oklahoma Twister. She's from Poland, where the flag is red and white. :D The backing is this cool design with confetti and ribbons that seems appropriate for a wedding celebration/gift.

I had to test each of the red fabrics (there's a couple dozen) to make sure they weren't going to bleed--the quilt on our bed is a gorgeous (if I do say so myself) red and white and black starred quilt that became red and white and pink and black the first time it was washed. :( I've never had trouble with colors running other than red, but now I'm paranoid about it, esp. for a gift like this.

This is also known as my Lost Girl quilt, since that's what I was marathoning while piecing most of the blocks. I have fun planning a quilt that has a special meaning like this, and I hope they like it!

I love the thought you put into this. The swirl effect of the pattern goes really well with the curled ribbons and the quilt stitching you did. Wonderful!

Thank you! I have another one for another student who's getting married, and that one was just as fun to figure out how to bring the two of them together in the quilt. :)

I'm considering the plan of divorcing my husband and getting remarried, just so you would make a quilt for me. That's how beautiful these are. <3

No need to be so drastic! Of course, maybe that way you'd get to sign up for a wedding registry again. Hmmm.

So beautiful. Red is like that in yarn, too, bleeding all over any other color in its wake.

Thank you! It's a shame, because I really like red, but I'm going to be hesitant to use it from now on.
